Gestra VK14 is an inline visual flow indicator and steam trap sight glass. The product features DIN flange connections, an EN-JL1040 cast iron body, a MAXOS® borosilicate glass sight window, and graphite/CrNi sealing. It has no moving parts and supports a maximum permissible temperature of 280 °C, increasing to 300 °C when mica sheets are installed. It is suitable for observing flow and drainage conditions in horizontal or vertical steam-system pipelines, high-temperature discharge lines, condensate circuits, and Ex Zones 0 to 22.

Application scenarios
Flow observation in horizontal or vertical steam-system pipelines
As an inline visual flow indicator, VK14 can be installed in horizontal or vertical steam-system pipelines. The borosilicate glass sight window enables observation of fluid flow and drainage conditions inside the pipeline.
Monitoring of high-temperature discharge lines or condensate circuits
VK14 can be used for on-site flow observation in high-temperature discharge lines or condensate circuits. The maximum permissible temperature is 280 °C, increasing to 300 °C when mica sheets are installed.
Fluid-condition observation in Ex Zones
VK14 can be installed in Ex Zones 0, 1, 2, 20, 21, and 22 for on-site observation of fluid or discharge conditions inside pipelines. The product itself has no Ex marking.
Installation & maintenance notes
Fluid pH and temperature limits
The pH value of the applicable fluid should not exceed 9. The operating temperature must remain within the product's permissible range: the maximum permissible temperature is 280 °C, increasing to 300 °C when mica sheets are installed.
FAQ
How does the VK14 sight glass work?
The VK14 is a viewing window installed upstream of the steam trap. The water level and flow pattern in the float/baffle assembly show whether condensate is present in the pipeline and how it is being discharged, helping to identify steam loss and condensate accumulation.
How does the VK14 differ from other models in the same series in terms of nominal size and connection type?
The VK14 uses DIN flanged connections and is available in DN15, 20, 25, 40 and 50, each size with its own weight and installation dimensions. The VK16 offers options for higher pressure ratings and different flange/end connections.
What key parameters should I consider when selecting the VK14?
Key considerations include the DN size, PN rating, body material, connection type and sight glass material. The VK14 is made of EN-JL1040 / GG-25 with PN16 flanges, DN15-DN50. If a higher pressure rating is required, consider the VK16 series.
What are the key installation requirements for the VK14?
Install the sight glass upstream of the steam trap with the baffle facing downward. The pipework may be vertical or horizontal; observe the flow direction arrow. Ensure all components are securely fastened and the sight glass is positioned for easy inspection.
What certification, inspection and certificate options are available for the VK14?
The operating pressure, temperature and pH value of the medium can be specified when ordering. EN 10204 2.2/3.1B certificates are available on request. Delivery is subject to the terms of sale, and the exact scope of certification depends on the actual order.
