Application scenarios

Thermodynamic Air Venting in Steam Systems

BK212 is used for thermodynamic air venting in steam systems. Its automatic air-venting function removes non-condensable gases from the steam system.

Steam Trapping in High-Temperature, High-Pressure Steam Systems

BK212 is used for condensate drainage in high-temperature, high-pressure steam systems. The maximum allowable temperature is 540°C, and the maximum allowable pressure under the relevant operating conditions is 261 bar(g). It is suitable for steam and condensate media.

Automatic Condensate Drainage from Steam Lines

BK212 is used for automatic condensate drainage from steam lines. It is suitable for steam and condensate media and can be installed using socket-weld or butt-weld ends.

BK212 can be installed in any position.

FAQ

What applications is the Gestra BK212 bimetallic steam trap suitable for?

The BK212 is used for draining and venting steam and condensate systems. It discharges condensate while minimizing steam loss and can also be used for thermal air venting in steam systems.

How does the BK212 work, and what are its functional features?

The BK212 uses a corrosion-resistant Thermovit® Duo stainless steel bimetallic regulator. At start-up the valve is open and discharges condensate; as the condensate temperature rises, the bimetallic strips bend and move the nozzle toward the closed position, and the valve reopens when the temperature drops. The trap features a built-in strainer, an integral check valve function and automatic air venting, and can be installed in any position.

Which connection types and sizes does the BK212 support?

Connection types include socket weld ends and butt weld ends. Available models are BK212-15, BK212-20 and BK212-25, corresponding to DN15, DN20 and DN25, each weighing 16.00 kg. Socket weld and butt weld ends are both available.

What are the materials and pressure/temperature ratings of the BK212?

The standard BK212 has a body and cover made of 1.7383, with a graphite/CrNi seat seal; further design variants include BK212-S, BK212-F91, BK212-F91-SD, BK212-F92-SD and BK212-ASME. Maximum allowable pressure, maximum allowable temperature and permissible differential pressure vary with the design variant and temperature conditions.

How do I confirm the correct BK212 configuration for my application?

For sizing, specify the medium together with its temperature and pressure, the back pressure, the condensate flow rate, the design variant, the end connection type and size, the installation position or the type of steam consumer, and the applicable DIN, EN or ASME standard.
