FAQ

Which locations in steam systems are suitable for the Gestra MK25-2 thermostatic steam trap?

Gestra MK25-2 is used for condensate discharge from steam pipelines and the ends of steam circuits, and is suitable for steam and condensate service. Its thermostatic diaphragm regulator operates according to condensate temperature, making it suitable for applications requiring continuous condensate removal from steam systems. Valve Cloud Warehouse prioritizes verification of steam pressure, back pressure, condensate load, and installation location during selection.

How should the PN40, Class 150, or Class 300 version of MK25-2 be selected according to pressure rating and temperature?

Selection should be based on both the pipeline connection standard and the allowable pressure at the actual operating temperature. The PN40 version has a maximum allowable pressure of 40 barg at 20°C and 14.5 barg at 450°C; the Class 300 version has a maximum allowable pressure of 51 barg at 20°C and 20.2 barg at 450°C; the Class 150 version has a maximum allowable pressure of 19.7 barg at 20°C and 4.6 barg at 450°C. The maximum allowable differential pressure is 22 bar for all pressure ratings.

How is the condensate capacity of MK25-2 used for size selection?

At a differential pressure of Δp=5 bar, the MK25-2 fitted with 4 x 5H2 thermostatic diaphragm capsules has a maximum condensate capacity of 2800 kg/h, while the version fitted with 9 x 5H2 thermostatic diaphragm capsules can reach 5000 kg/h. Valve Cloud Warehouse recommends verifying condensate loads during start-up and normal operation, inlet steam pressure, and outlet back pressure together to avoid insufficient capacity caused by selection based solely on pipe size.

What sizes and connection options are available for Gestra MK25-2?

MK25-2 is available in DN40 and DN50 sizes. Connection options include DIN 2635 PN40 flanges, ASME B16.5 Class 150/300 RF flanges, BSP threads, NPT threads, socket-weld ends, and butt-weld ends. During selection, the valve end standard should match the pressure rating, connection type, and installation dimensions of the existing pipeline.

What should be considered for MK25-2 installation and routine maintenance?

This steam trap can be installed in any orientation and incorporates an integral strainer to help retain pipeline contaminants. Maintenance should focus on checking the condition of the strainer and cover gasket. Its thermostatic diaphragm capsules are made of Hastelloy®/stainless steel, and the body seal is graphite. For abnormal operation or component replacement, first verify the applicable MK25-2 or MK25-2 S version and component specifications.
