The Spirax Sarco M10F is a three-piece fire-safe, anti-static ball valve for pipeline isolation, available in full-bore and reduced-bore configurations. It features a zinc-plated carbon steel body and an AISI 316 stainless steel ball, with BSP, BSPT, or NPT threaded connections, or butt-weld and socket-weld connections. It is suitable for pipeline isolation in saturated steam applications at working pressures up to 15 bar g, allowing selection by nominal size and connection type.

FAQ

Can the Spirax Sarco M10F be used to regulate steam flow, and what is the pressure limit for saturated steam service?

The M10F is intended for pipeline isolation in steam and other industrial fluid services. It must not be used as a control valve. Even though its flow characteristic is specified as modified linear, it should not be selected for flow regulation. The maximum operating pressure for saturated steam service is 15 bar g. The maximum allowable pressure of 62 bar g applies at 25°C, while the maximum allowable temperature of 230°C applies at 0 bar g. These two values must not be treated as a permissible simultaneous operating condition. The 93 bar g rating is the maximum design cold hydrostatic test pressure, not an operating pressure.

How does the M10F fire-safe sealing system work, and which standards apply to its fire-safe and antistatic designs?

Under normal operating conditions, the M10F seals the ball using carbon-reinforced PTFE (R-PTFE) seats. If the temperature exceeds the material limit and completely destroys the soft seat, the ball contacts the secondary metal seat in the end cap, creating a metal-to-metal seal. This secondary seat is machined to match the ball dimensions. The fire-safe design complies with BS 6755 Part 2 and API Spec 6FA, while the antistatic design complies with ISO 7121 and BS 5351. Under normal operating conditions, the leakage ratings are EN 12266-1 Grade A and ISO 5208 Grade A. These ratings must not be directly equated with sealing performance under fire conditions.

What are the selection differences between the M10F2RB and M10F2FB, and which pipe connections are available?

The M10F2RB has a zinc-plated carbon steel body and a reduced-bore configuration, while the M10F2FB has a zinc-plated carbon steel body and a full-bore configuration. Both bore configurations are available in sizes from 1/4" to 2", while the 2 1/2" size is available in reduced bore only. For the same nominal size, the Kv value and installation dimensions must be compared. For example, the 1" reduced-bore model has a Kv of 27, while the full-bore model has a Kv of 58. The two models must not be considered equivalent based solely on nominal size. Available connections include BSP, BSPT, and NPT threads, as well as butt weld (BW) and socket weld (SW) connections. Dimension designation A applies to threaded and butt weld connections, while A1 applies to socket weld connections.

What operating conditions apply to the M10F working torque data?

The M10F working torque varies according to valve size and bore configuration. For example, the 1" reduced-bore model has a working torque of 13 Nm, while the full-bore model has a working torque of 21 Nm. The 2" reduced-bore model has a working torque of 40 Nm, while the full-bore model has a working torque of 45 Nm. These values apply to frequently operated valves with a maximum differential pressure of 62 bar. The operating torque of valves left stationary for extended periods may increase, so the listed values must not be treated as operating torque values that remain unchanged after prolonged inactivity.

Which sealing spares are available for the M10F, and what information is required when ordering?

Available M10F spares include the seats, stem seal set, and body gaskets, corresponding to component numbers 5, 6, 16, and 17. The seat material is R-PTFE, the stem seals include antistatic R-PTFE and graphite components, and the body gaskets are graphite. When ordering spares, specify the valve size, complete model designation, such as 1/2" M10F2FB, and the name of the required spare. Installation, disassembly, and maintenance must be performed in accordance with the installation and maintenance instructions supplied with the product.
