Product Overview

Fast and sensitive response for precise and demanding control objectives

NAMUR-compatible positioner providing fast, sensitive response for quarter-turn valve control

For double-acting and spring-return actuators
The Bray Series 6P positioner delivers exceptional control for a range of quarter-turn valves. This design is fast and sensitive, using a 3-15 psi pneumatic control signal to meet the most demanding control objectives. Standard features include a highly visible dome position indicator and 3 gauges. The 6P series offers a variety of options, including position feedback limit switches and a 4-20 mA position feedback transmitter.
Features
The Bray Series 6P positioner is designed to control quarter-turn valves including butterfly and ball valves (standard or segmented). Its sensitive dual-poppet relay makes it ideal for precision damper control applications. When valve positioning and sensitivity are critical, the Bray Series 6P is the solution of choice. The 6P series automatically positions the valve at precise angles between 0° and 90° based on the pneumatic input signal for modulating valve position control. The standard positioner is double-acting but can be easily converted to single-acting/spring-return. The 6P also features split-range capability with easily adjustable span and zero.
Mounting and Materials
The 6P series mounts directly to any NAMUR-compatible quarter-turn valve actuator. Contact your local Bray distributor for information on installing the 6P series on non-NAMUR actuators. The 6P series housing is constructed of durable die-cast aluminum, first anodized for internal corrosion resistance, then powder-coated for enhanced external environmental protection.
Options/Accessories
Special cam: Factory or field convertible special cam for non-standard ranges
Air filter: A coalescing air filter is recommended for all positioners to eliminate dust, moisture, and oil particles, preventing unit contamination

FAQ

How does the Bray Series 6P pneumatic positioner achieve modulating control of quarter-turn valves?

The 6P series receives a 3-15 psi pneumatic control signal and automatically positions the valve at the corresponding angle between 0° and 90°, providing continuous modulating valve position control. Its sensitive dual-poppet relay delivers fast, responsive performance suitable for butterfly valves, ball valves, segmented ball valves, and dampers.

What actuators can the 6P series be used with, including double-acting and spring-return?

The 6P series is suitable for double-acting and single-acting/spring-return quarter-turn actuators, supporting both direct and reverse action. The standard positioner is double-acting but can be converted to single-acting/spring-return. It mounts directly to actuators complying with VDI/VDE 3845 (NAMUR).

What application conditions should be confirmed when selecting a Bray 6P positioner?

Confirm actuator type, valve rotation angle, direct or reverse action requirement, supply pressure, mounting interface, and whether position feedback is needed. Supply pressure range is 20-100 psig (1.4-7.0 bar), ambient temperature range is -20°C to 70°C. For non-standard stroke ranges, specific configuration depends on the actual model and application conditions.

Does the 6P series support valve position feedback and split-range control?

The 6P series offers position feedback limit switches and a 4-20 mA position feedback transmitter option for valve position status. It also features split-range capability with adjustable span and zero for split-range control within the same control signal range.

What air supply and environmental requirements apply for installing and maintaining the Bray 6P positioner?

The positioner requires clean, dry gas as the supply medium. A coalescing air filter is recommended upstream to remove dust, moisture, and oil particles, reducing internal contamination risk. The housing is die-cast aluminum with anodized internal treatment and powder-coated exterior, with IP66 protection. Port size is 1/4" NPT.
