Reliable Rack and Pinion Pneumatic Actuators for Industrial Automation

Bray’s Series 92 direct drive and Series 93 spring return pneumatic actuators incorporate design elements of form, strength, compactness, and simplicity. Superior design and precision manufacturing produce a modular product line that reduces overall size requirements and saves costs. Additionally, all Bray accessories are fully modular and mount directly to the actuator, reducing costs while providing flexibility and efficiency. Bray Series 92/93 actuators are rack and pinion opposed piston actuators available in two versions: double-acting with rotations of 90°, 135°, and 180°, and spring return with 90° rotation. Series 92/93 actuators are primarily designed for pneumatic operation with maximum pressure up to 140 psig (10 bar) and temperature range of -4°F to 200°F (-20°C to 93°C). Consult the factory for higher and lower temperature applications. All double-acting and spring return units are suitable for on/off and modulating applications. As an option, actuators driven by other media such as hydraulic oil or water are also available. The Series 92/93 is completely self-enclosed and self-contained. Its various features reduce maintenance and make disassembly and installation safer and easier. Two independent adjustable travel stop screws and cams on the output shaft provide precise bidirectional adjustment of 90° rotary valve movement in open and closed positions (+5° to -5° limit adjustment) Integral porting Standard units feature an anodized aluminum body with polyester-coated end caps Special coatings and materials for corrosive environments NAMUR accessory compatibility Direct mounting Bray actuators conform to ISO 5211 mounting dimensions and mount directly to Bray valves without requiring external couplings. Field installation is simple, minimizing misalignment and reducing contaminant accumulation between the valve and actuator. Bray Series 92/93 actuators are specified as direct replacements for Flow-Tek Series 92/93.

FAQ

What operating principle does the 92/93 series pneumatic actuator use, and what valves is it suitable for?

The 92/93 series uses a rack and pinion opposed piston design that converts pneumatic pressure into quarter-turn rotary torque for driving butterfly and ball valves. The 92 series is double-acting with 90°, 135°, and 180° rotation; the 93 series is spring-return with 90° rotation.

How do I choose between the double-acting 92 series and spring-return 93 series?

Selection depends on valve action logic and fail-safe position requirements. The 92 series double-acting actuator uses air supply for both opening and closing. The 93 series spring-return achieves fail-safe action via springs. Specific configuration depends on the actual model and application conditions.

Can the 92/93 series be used for on/off control or modulating control?

Both double-acting and spring-return versions are suitable for on/off control and modulating applications. Selection should match valve rotation angle, output torque, control mode, and supply conditions, with maximum allowable pressure up to 140 psig (10 bar).

How do the 92/93 series actuators connect to valves and accessories?

The actuators comply with ISO 5211:2001(E) mounting dimensions and mount directly to Bray valves without external couplings. They feature NAMUR accessory compatibility for easy pneumatic accessory mounting. Integral porting and modular direct-mount design simplify field assembly.

What are the key points for installation, commissioning, and maintenance of the 92/93 series?

The actuator features two independently adjustable travel stop screws and an output shaft cam for bidirectional adjustment of 90° rotary valve open/close positions, range +5° to -5°. Use dry compressed air or inert gas as supply medium. Confirm coating, materials, and specific configuration based on actual environment, temperature, and corrosion conditions.
