The Spirax Sarco BPT13 series consists of brass pressure-balanced thermostatic steam traps with stainless steel liquid-filled capsules. They are available with BSP or NPT threaded connections in sizes from 3/8" to 3/4". The valve body is rated PN16, with a maximum operating pressure of 13 bar g and a maximum operating temperature of 225°C. Capsules with different subcooling characteristics are available for condensate drainage from steam main lines.

Application scenarios
Condensate drainage from steam main lines
For condensate removal from steam main lines. BPT13 is a balanced-pressure thermostatic steam trap that discharges condensate at temperatures below the corresponding saturated steam temperature, depending on the selected liquid-filled capsule. It is suitable for operating conditions with a maximum working pressure of 13 bar g and a maximum working temperature of 225°C.
Selection points
Optional Capsule Subcooling Configurations
Available with three capsule types: STD, NTS, and SUB, which discharge condensate at 12°C, 4°C, and 24°C below saturated steam temperature, respectively. Specify the capsule type when ordering.
Stainless Steel Pressure-Balanced Capsule
This thermostatic steam trap uses a pressure-balanced stainless steel capsule. The condensate discharge temperature is determined by the subcooling of the selected capsule.
Brass PN16 Small-Bore Threaded Connections
The valve body is manufactured from BS EN 12165 CW 617N brass, rated PN16, and is available with 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" BSP (BS 21) or NPT threaded connections.
Maximum Operating Pressure: 13 bar g
The product has a maximum operating pressure of 13 bar g and is suitable for steam systems that do not exceed its specified pressure and temperature limits.
Installation & maintenance notes
Verify Applicable System Pressure and Temperature Range
Before installation, confirm that system operating conditions do not exceed the allowable operating limits of this steam trap. The maximum operating pressure is 13 bar g @ 220°C, and the maximum operating temperature is 225°C @ 7 bar g.
FAQ
How should a BPT13 pressure-balanced steam trap be selected?
When selecting a model, confirm the connection type, size, whether an integral strainer or union inlet is required, the capsule type, and the actual operating pressure and temperature. The specific configuration should be confirmed according to the actual model and application conditions.
What are the differences between BPT13A, BPT13S, BPT13UA and BPT13US?
BPT13A has an angle connection, while BPT13S has a straight-through connection. BPT13UA is an angle-connection type with a union inlet, and BPT13US is a straight-through type with a union inlet. BPT13AX and BPT13SX are equipped with an integral strainer based on their corresponding models.
Which capsule types are available for BPT13?
STD, NTS and SUB capsules are available. The STD type discharges condensate at 12°C below saturated steam temperature, the NTS type at 4°C, and the SUB type at 24°C. The capsule type must be specified when ordering.
What are the pressure and temperature limits of BPT13?
The maximum operating pressure is 13 bar g, and the maximum operating temperature is 225°C. The maximum allowable pressure is 16 bar g @ 120°C, and the maximum allowable temperature is 250°C @ 7 bar g. Both the minimum allowable and operating temperatures are 0°C.
What should be noted when installing BPT13?
During installation, keep the capsule horizontal with the cover at the top. It is also recommended to provide a cooling leg upstream of the steam trap.
