M10V Ball Valve Installation and Maintenance Guide | Spirax Sarco

Covers installation of the M10V ball valve in steam lines, disassembly and maintenance, replacement of the valve seats and stem seals, and key points for ordering spare parts.

Threaded, socket-weld, butt-weld and flanged types

The illustration shows the threaded type.

Installation

Although the valve is of robust construction, strain caused by poor pipe alignment and/or incorrect pipe length can adversely affect the valve and must be avoided.

Take particular care to ensure correct pipe alignment, with the pipe and valve on the same axis.

The valve is suitable for on/off service and allows flow in either direction. For steam systems:

  1. Install a drain point upstream of the valve.
  2. Open the valve slowly to avoid water hammer.

Socket-Weld and Butt-Weld Valves

Before welding:

  1. Remove the end caps from the valve body.
  2. Remove the PTFE seats.
  3. Weld the end caps to the pipe.
  4. Refit the PTFE seats.
  5. Reassemble the valve.

Safety

Before dismantling or commissioning, ensure that there is no flow through the pipework. Isolate the pipework or interrupt the fluid flow. Drain the fluid from the pipework before removing the valve.

Maintenance

Introduction

Maintenance can be carried out without removing the entire ball valve from the pipework. Remove the two upper bolts and nuts (13, 14), then loosen the two lower ones. The complete valve body assembly can be removed and replaced with new parts.

Flanged Valves

The complete flanged valve must be removed from the pipework for maintenance. Remove the four nuts (14); the complete valve body can then be removed and replaced with new parts.

Replacing the Seat

  1. Remove the valve body as described above.
  2. Remove the seat (5).
  3. Fit a new seat, pressing it into position in the valve body.

Replacing the Stem Seal

  1. Remove the valve body as described above.
  2. Remove nuts (8) and (8A).
  3. Replace the stem seal (6).

Reassembly

Reassemble in the reverse order of the steps above.

Spare Parts

Available spare parts are shown with solid lines; components shown with dashed lines are not available as spare parts.

Available Spare Parts

Seat and stem seal assembly 5,6

Ordering Spare Parts

Order spare parts as listed above, specifying the ball valve size and type.

Example: Seat and stem seal assembly for a 1-1/2” M10V2FB ball valve.

FAQ

What are the flow direction and installation requirements for the Spirax Sarco M10V ball valve in a steam line?

The M10V ball valve is designed for on/off service and allows flow in either direction. Install it with the valve and pipeline on the same axis to prevent stress caused by poor pipe alignment or an incorrect pipe length. In steam systems, install a drain point upstream of the valve and open the valve slowly to prevent water hammer.

Which components must be removed before welding M10V socket-weld and butt-weld ball valves?

Before welding, remove the end caps from the valve body and take out the PTFE seats. After welding the end caps to the pipeline, reinstall the PTFE seats and reassemble the valve.

Does the entire M10V ball valve need to be removed from the pipeline for maintenance?

For general maintenance, the body assembly can be removed by taking out the two upper bolts and nuts and loosening the two lower bolts and nuts; the entire ball valve does not need to be removed. For flanged versions, the entire valve must be removed from the pipeline, then the four nuts removed to access the body. Before disassembly or adjustment, confirm that no fluid is flowing through the pipeline. The pipeline must also be drained before removing the valve.

How are the seats and stem seals on the M10V ball valve replaced?

To replace a seat, first remove the body, take out the seat (5), and press the new seat into its corresponding position in the body. To replace a stem seal, first remove the body, then remove nuts (8) and (8A) and replace the stem seal (6). Reassemble the valve by reversing the disassembly steps.

What information is required when ordering M10V ball valve repair spare parts?

The available repair spare parts are the seat and stem seal assembly, corresponding to part numbers 5 and 6. When ordering, specify the ball valve size and type, for example: a seat and stem seal assembly for a 1-1/2-inch M10V2FB ball valve.
