Application scenarios

Steam Line Isolation and Shut-Off in Hygienic Systems

Used for opening and closing, sectional isolation, and maintenance shut-off of steam lines in hygienic systems. This three-piece, full-bore shut-off ball valve is suitable for steam service and is available with hygienic clamp connections or extended butt-weld tube ends compliant with ASME BPE. The maximum saturated steam operating pressure depends on the seat material and is 7.0 or 8.5 bar g.

Automated On-Off Isolation in Hygienic Process Lines

Used in hygienic process lines requiring remote or programmed operation, providing automated shut-off and isolation for steam, liquid, or gas service. The valve incorporates an ISO 5211 mounting pad for actuator installation and is explicitly not suitable for continuous flow modulation.

Selection points

Forged Stainless Steel Body with Low Ferrite Content

The body is manufactured from forged stainless steel with a controlled ferrite content of 3% to 5%, helping to prevent oxidation.

Extended Butt-Weld Tube Ends for Automatic Welding

Extended O/D butt-weld tube ends (ETO) compliant with ASME BPE are available, allowing automatic welding without dismantling the valve.

Hygienic Internal Surface Finish and Seal Compliance

The standard internal surface is mechanically polished to Ra 0.5 µm, with electropolishing to Ra 0.375 µm available as an option. The stem seals and seats comply with FDA CFR Title 21 Paragraph 177 Section 1550 and USP 23 Class VI.

Full-Bore Flow Path Design

The connection port bore matches the ball bore, reducing flow resistance and improving drainability.

Spring-Loaded Lockable Handle and ISO 5211 Automation Interface

A spring-loaded lockable handle allows the valve to be secured in the selected position. An ISO 5211 standard mounting pad is also provided for fitting an actuator.

PTFE Seat Options and Saturated Steam Pressure Limits

Seat options include virgin PTFE TFM 1600 and mineral-filled PTFE. For saturated steam service, selection must be based on the maximum operating pressure permitted for the chosen seat material.

Installation & maintenance notes

Shut-Off Service Limitation

The M70i is a three-piece, full-bore shut-off ball valve and must be used in the fully open or fully closed position. It must not be used for modulating control or prolonged throttling.

Verification of Pressure, Temperature, and Seat Configuration

Before installation and commissioning, verify that the actual process medium, pressure, and temperature are within the allowable limits for the applicable M70i seat configuration. In particular, confirm the maximum saturated steam operating pressure according to whether virgin PTFE TFM 1600 or mineral-filled PTFE seats are selected.

FAQ

How does the M70i hygienic ball valve operate?

The M70i is a three-piece ball valve with a full-bore design. It provides rapid shut-off through the opening and closing action of the ball against the seats and is suitable for high-purity, aseptic steam, liquid, and gas systems.

Which factors determine whether the M70i ISO model should be selected?

Key considerations include the material grade, surface finish, port connection type, whether cavity fillers are required, and whether compliance with ASME BPE and an ISO 5211 automation mounting pad are needed. The specific configuration must be confirmed according to the actual model and application conditions.

What are the main technical advantages of the M70i compared with similar valves?

Key advantages include forged 316L stainless steel construction, a full-bore design, low ferrite content to inhibit oxidation, automatic welding without valve dismantling, and a lockable handle for enhanced system safety. The valve is suitable for high-purity, aseptic processes.

What are the key installation and maintenance considerations for this valve?

The design follows ASME BPE requirements and incorporates an ISO 5211 automation mounting pad. On-site welding can be performed using the extended tube ends. An internal surface finish of Ra 0.5 µm is available, with Ra 0.375 µm offered as an option where required. Specific installation and maintenance instructions are supplied with the product; refer to the accompanying documentation.

Which certificates and compliance documents are available for the M70i?

Available documentation includes an EN 10204 3.1 material certificate, FDA/USP-related certificates, and a surface polishing certificate. Any additional certificates or inspections required must be specified when ordering.
