Application scenarios
Isolation of pharmaceutical aseptic process lines
For shutoff and isolation of clean steam, process liquid, or high-purity gas lines in pharmaceutical aseptic processes. The valve features 316L stainless steel construction, an internal surface roughness of no more than 0.375 μm Ra, and virgin PTFE TFM 1600 seals compliant with FDA CFR 21 and USP 23 Class VI. It is suitable for hygienic processes where bacterial contamination or residual media could affect product quality.
Shutoff of clean-media branch lines in bioprocessing systems
For isolating clean steam, process gas, or liquid lines connected to bioprocessing equipment. The M80i is a shutoff ball valve for steam, liquid, and other gas systems. It features a full-bore design and supports automated actuation through an ISO 5211 mounting pad.
Isolation of hygienic process piping in food and beverage systems
For shutoff and isolation of hygienic process-media lines in food and beverage production systems. The valve is designed in accordance with ASME BPE and is available with sanitary clamp connections or extended O/D butt-weld tube ends. It is suitable for hygienic fluid systems where bacterial contamination or residual media could affect product quality.
Automated welding of hygienic piping assemblies
For permanent hygienic piping or piping-module assemblies requiring automated welding. The valve complies with ASME BPE and features extended O/D butt-weld tube ends, allowing automated welding at the tube ends without dismantling the valve.
Media isolation in clean cosmetic manufacturing processes
For shutoff and isolation of product-media or high-purity utility lines in clean cosmetic manufacturing processes. The valve features a hygienic 316L stainless steel design, with a ferrite content of less than 3% in wetted components. It is suitable for process stages where residual media or microbial contamination could affect product quality.
Selection points
Low-ferrite 316L (CF3M) stainless steel body
The body is made of ASTM A351 Gr. CF3M (316L) stainless steel, and the ferrite content of wetted components is below 3%, making the valve suitable for high-purity and hygienic media applications.
Internal surface roughness of no more than 0.375 μm Ra
The valve's internal surfaces are polished to a roughness of no more than 0.375 μm Ra for hygienic processes with stringent internal cleaning requirements.
Full-bore flow-path design
The inside diameter of each connection port fully matches the ball bore. This full-bore flow-path design reduces flow resistance and minimizes media retention.
Extended butt-weld tube ends (ETO) for welding without disassembly
Extended O/D butt-weld tube ends are available. Their low sulfur content makes them suitable for automated welding, and the valve does not need to be dismantled during welding, helping maintain seal integrity.
Virgin PTFE seals compliant with FDA and USP Class VI
The seals are made of virgin PTFE TFM 1600 and comply with FDA CFR 21 and USP 23 Class VI requirements, making them suitable for sealing high-purity hygienic media.
ISO 5211 actuator mounting pad
An actuator mounting pad conforming to ISO 5211 enables direct actuator installation for automated control.
Installation & maintenance notes
Use the installation method specified for the connection type
Only models with extended O/D butt-weld tube ends are intended for welding. They may be automatically welded in accordance with ASME BPE without dismantling the valve. Sanitary clamp models must use clamp connections and must not be used as weld-end valves.
Observe operating pressure and temperature limits
Before commissioning, confirm that the actual pressure and temperature are within the allowable limits. The maximum operating pressure is 7.0 bar g, and the maximum operating temperature is 180°C at 0 bar g.
FAQ
How does the M80i sanitary ball valve operate, and what is its role in an aseptic system?
The M80i is a three-piece ball valve designed for rapid fluid shutoff. It is used as an isolation valve in hygienic systems and must not be used for throttling or control. Its design complies with ASME BPE and ISO actuator mounting standards and is suitable for high-purity steam, liquid, and gas systems.
How should the valve size and connection type be matched during selection?
The valve is available in 2½", 3", and 4" sizes with sanitary clamp connections or extended O/D butt-weld ends. For other sizes, refer to the M70i technical documentation. Selection should be based on the system pipe size, connection method, and ASME BPE requirements.
How does the valve's surface finish affect aseptic applications?
The internal surfaces are polished to 0.375 μm Ra, while the external surfaces retain their as-cast or machined finish. This improves control of residues after cleaning and sterilization, making the valve suitable for aseptic processes that are sensitive to surface contamination.
Which certificates and compliance documents are available at the time of ordering?
An EN 10204 3.1 material certificate, FDA/USP certificates, and a surface-polishing certificate are available. The required certificates must be specified at the time of ordering.
Which components are available as spare parts, and what precautions apply when using them?
Available spare parts include seats and cavity fillers, stem seals, stem O-rings, body seals, gasket retaining rings, and thrust washers. Installation and maintenance must be performed in accordance with the installation and maintenance instructions supplied with the valve.
