Features and Benefits

PTFE Lined Butterfly Valve 22/23 Features and Benefits

A Top Stem Bushing

Provides a top stem bushing secured by a stainless steel ring to absorb actuator side thrust, available in standard acetal or PTFE material.

B Upper Stem Packing

Upper stem packing prevents any environmental contaminants from entering the stem bore.

C Body

The body is a two-piece wafer or lug design with polyester coating. All bodies meet the full hydrostatic requirements of ASME Class 150 pressure rating.

D Bearings

PTFE-impregnated steel bearings for precise alignment of upper and lower stems.

E Primary Seal

The primary seal is achieved through interference fit between the widened disc hub and the profiled disc.

F Seat Design

The seat design reduces opening/closing torque while also reducing wear on contacting components. The curved machining of the internal seat area minimizes contact force between the disc and seat as the disc approaches or leaves the closed position. This unique seat geometry supports lower torque and reduces seat wear.

G Seat Energizer

The resilient seat energizer fully surrounds the seat, including the disc hub. The uniform force provided achieves bubble-tight sealing.

H Neck

Extended neck design on all valve sizes allows for 2” (50 mm) pipe insulation and easy actuator installation.

I Flange Locating Holes

Locating holes in the wafer version allow for quick and accurate alignment during valve installation, preventing disc interference with the adjacent pipe inner diameter.

J Blowout-Proof Stem

The shoulder is machined into the upper stem. The stem and disc are pressed together during assembly to become one component, making this a positive drive connection from stem to disc.

K Disc

Lined disc minimum thickness of 1/8” (3 mm), made of solid PTFE or PFA encapsulated stainless steel.

FAQ

How does the Bray 22/23 series PTFE lined butterfly valve achieve bidirectional bubble-tight sealing?

This series achieves sealing through the seat energizer, seat geometry, and the配合 between the disc hub and specially profiled disc. The elastic seat energizer fully surrounds the outside of the seat and disc hub, providing uniform force. The widened disc hub and specially profiled disc form the primary sealing interface, achieving bidirectional bubble-tight sealing.

How to select seat and disc materials for the 22/23 series in corrosive media applications?

Seat options include PTFE, conductive PTFE, or UHMWPE. Disc options include stainless steel, PTFE/stainless steel, PFA/stainless steel, UHMWPE/stainless steel, UHMWPE/ductile iron, Hastelloy®, or titanium. Selection should consider media properties, operating temperature, pressure, and anti-static requirements. Specific configuration should be confirmed based on the actual model and application conditions.

What are the applicable size, pressure, and temperature ranges for the Bray 22/23 series butterfly valve?

This series covers NPS 2 to 24 / DN 50 to 600, with a maximum allowable operating pressure of 150 psi (10 bar) and a temperature range of -18°C to 200°C. Actual selection should also verify the compatibility of the selected body, seat, and disc materials with the specific operating conditions.

What body styles and flange connection options are available for the 22/23 series?

This series offers wafer and lug two-piece body styles, with body materials including ductile iron, carbon steel, or stainless steel. Flange drilling can match ASME B16.1 Class 125, ASME B16.5 Class 150, and EN 1092 PN 10, PN 16 standards. The wafer body features flange locating holes for quick alignment during installation and to reduce the risk of disc interference with the adjacent pipe inside diameter.

What structural features should be considered when installing and maintaining the Bray 22/23 series PTFE lined butterfly valve?

During installation, verify that the disc does not interfere with the adjacent pipe inside diameter throughout its full open and close travel, and use the locating holes on the wafer version for flange alignment. The extended neck accommodates 50 mm pipe insulation and facilitates actuator installation. During maintenance, check the upper stem packing's protection of the stem hole and the condition of the seat, disc, and stem. PTFE-impregnated steel bearings maintain precise upper and lower stem alignment.
