Features and Benefits

A Enclosure

Compact, weatherproof VSM is UL certified NEMA Type 4, 4x and IP66/67/68. Resin base and cover provide excellent corrosion, wear, impact, and UV resistance.

B High-Visibility Position Indicator

Impact-resistant dome indicator provides visual open and close indication. To reverse the open and close visual output, simply rotate it 90 degrees. Position indication can be changed without removing the cover and exposing the internal wiring of the VSM.

C Neck Secondary Seal

Ensures the indicator area is isolated from the internal area of the VSM. The secondary seal prevents water ingress if the dome or dome seal is damaged due to harsh field conditions.

D Captured Cover Bolts

The cover is secured to the base with stainless steel captured bolts located outside the sealing area.

E O-Ring Provides Weather Protection

An O-ring seal between the cover and base provides weatherproof sealing to prevent internal corrosion.

F Cam Sensor

Splined cam design allows easy and accurate switch trip point adjustment without tools.

G Limit Switches

Up to six switch options and configurations to meet connection requirements.

H Terminals

Clearly marked terminal board is angled toward the user for ease of installation.

I Conduit Entry

Three conduit entries available in imperial or metric threads.

J Grounding

Green-coded, easy-to-operate ground bolt.

FAQ

How does the Bray Series 5B resin switch box provide valve open/close position feedback?

The Series 5B uses mechanical or proximity limit switches to detect valve stem motion and convert open, closed, and intermediate set positions into electrical output signals. The product can be configured with up to 6 switches, with spline cams for accurate, tool-free switch trigger position setting.

Is the Series 5B suitable for wet, corrosive, or outdoor environments?

This series uses glass fiber reinforced PBT valve body material, with a resin base and cover providing corrosion, wear, impact, and UV resistance. Protection rating reaches IP66/67/68 and NEMA 4/4x, with an O-ring seal between cover and base and a stem secondary seal to help reduce water ingress risk under harsh field conditions. Specific configuration should be confirmed based on actual model and application conditions.

What switch types and communication protocols are available for the Bray 5B switch box?

Switches can be selected from mechanical SPDT, DPDT, as well as proximity PNP, NPN, 140V 2-wire, 250V 2-wire, reed, and NAMUR intrinsically safe types. Communication protocols include AS-I, Profibus DP, and DeviceNet. Selection should be confirmed based on control system interface, signal type, and site hazardous area requirements.

Can the Series 5B be directly mounted on NAMUR-compliant actuators?

Yes. The Series 5B is compatible with VDI/VDE 3845 mounting standards (NAMUR interface) and can be installed with corresponding valve actuators. Actuator mounting dimensions, shaft configuration, and required switch set points should be verified before installation.

How are the visual position indication and switch trigger points adjusted on the Series 5B in the field?

This series uses a high-visibility, impact-resistant dome position indicator. To reverse the open/close visual output, rotate the indicator 90 degrees without removing the cover or exposing internal wiring. Switch trigger points can be set using the spline cam for accurate, tool-free adjustment.
