Product Overview

Self-calibrating smart positioner for precise valve control

Fast and Reliable Control for Rotary Single-Acting and Double-Acting Actuators

Electro-pneumatic positioner Bray Series 6A delivers proven reliability with precise digital control, easy installation, simple calibration, and cost-effectiveness. Rotary single-acting and double-acting actuator units are provided as standard. An intrinsically safe version is also available. The Bray BUS positioner offers all the features of the Series 6A, plus network communication and remote access to positioner parameters and diagnostics. Features Online adaptive control: During operation, the unit continuously optimizes control behavior and travel time in response to changes in pipeline media pressure. Diagnostics: Bray Series 6A positioners feature self-diagnostic checks for corrective and preventive maintenance. All diagnostics run continuously, with ongoing monitoring and recording capabilities. Air supply monitor: Another feature of the Series 6A is the internal monitor that triggers a fault signal alarm when the air supply fails. The alarm is displayed on the local LCD screen and can also be sent to a remote control panel. Local position adjustment: Valve position can be manually adjusted locally by removing the housing cover and using the buttons to override the remote command signal. Restrictor: Even the smallest pneumatic actuators can be precisely controlled via the internal restrictor. Position indicator: In addition to the LCD display, valve position is clearly visible from a distance via a yellow indicator light. Locking device: The Series 6A comes standard with a friction clutch locking device for high-vibration applications.

Features and Benefits

Self-Calibration

Calibration is easily performed by entering just three parameters on the keypad and pressing a button. The calibration process is completed within 5 minutes, automatically determining travel limit stop positions, then measuring and recording parameters for the open and closed positions.

Explosion Protection

Designed for hazardous and harsh applications, the Series 6A explosion-proof positioner incorporates all the features of the explosion-proof enclosure with weatherproof sealing. The auto-calibration keypad buttons in the explosion-proof unit are mounted externally and easily accessible behind a flip plate. Local control is available without removing the housing cover, even during operation. The LCD display is visible through a sodium glass explosion-proof window. The weatherproof/explosion-proof enclosure meets NEMA 4, 4x, 7, and 9 specifications and is constructed of die-cast aluminum with an epoxy coating for chemical and corrosion protection. Weatherproof stainless steel construction is available upon request.

FAQ

How does the Series 6A smart positioner achieve automatic valve calibration?

The Series 6A features automatic calibration. The user enters three parameters on the keypad and starts the calibration procedure. The device automatically identifies travel limit positions and measures and records valve open and close parameters. Calibration can be completed within 5 minutes.

What pneumatic actuators and control modes is the Series 6A suitable for?

The Series 6A is suitable for rotary single-acting and double-acting pneumatic actuators, supporting both direct and reverse action. Control options include 4-20 mA analog signal or communication protocol control. Specific configuration depends on the actual model and application conditions.

What field communication protocols does the Series 6A support?

The Series 6A supports HART, Profibus PA, and Foundation Fieldbus communication protocols. The Bray BUS positioner offers all Series 6A features plus network communication and remote access to positioner parameters and diagnostics.

How does the Series 6A respond to supply pressure fluctuations or air supply failure?

The positioner features online adaptive control that continuously optimizes control behavior and response time during operation to adapt to media pressure changes. An internal air supply monitor triggers an alarm on air supply failure, displayed on the local LCD screen and sent to a remote control panel.

What designs does the Series 6A offer for hazardous areas and high-vibration environments?

The Series 6A is available in intrinsically safe and explosion-proof versions. Hazardous location versions involve ATEX, FM, CSA protection schemes, with applicable ratings depending on the model. A friction clutch locking device for high-vibration applications is standard. Explosion-proof models allow local control via external keypad without removing the housing cover.
