Application scenarios
Condensate Drainage from the Bottom of Compressed Air Receivers
For automatic condensate discharge from the bottom of air receivers. The ball float mechanism opens and closes the main valve in response to the liquid level. Threaded, small-size flanged, or DN40/DN50 versions can be selected according to the nominal size.
Low-Point Drainage from Air and Gas Mains
Installed at low points in mains or branch lines to discharge accumulated condensate. Threaded or flanged connections can be selected to match the pipeline.
Drainage from Collection Chambers in Gas-Liquid Separators
For automatic drainage from the bottom collection chamber of separators. Flanged versions can be fitted with a balance pipe connection, while larger sizes can be selected as CA14S-4.5/10/14 according to the differential pressure.
Selection points
Valve Cone Material and Temperature Rating Options for Small Sizes
The small-size CA14 uses a fluoroelastomer valve cone, while the CA14S uses an AISI 440B stainless steel valve cone. The maximum operating temperature is 200°C @ 14.7 bar g for the CA14 and 250°C @ 13.9 bar g for the CA14S. Select the model according to the valve cone material and operating temperature.
Large-Size Model Selection by Maximum Differential Pressure
The DN40 and DN50 CA14S models use stainless steel valve trim and are available in three versions according to the maximum differential pressure: CA14S-4.5, CA14S-10, and CA14S-14.
Threaded or Flanged Connections for Small Sizes
Small-size models are available with 1/2" or 3/4" BSP or NPT threaded connections, or with DN15-DN25 flanged connections. Select according to the pipe size and connection type.
Balance Pipe Connection Options on the Cover
The covers of small-size flanged models can be drilled for a 1/2" BSP or NPT balance pipe connection. DN40 and DN50 covers are provided with a balance pipe connection of the same size.
Ductile Iron Construction and PN16 Rating for Small Sizes
The small-size CA14 and CA14S have ductile iron bodies and covers, a PN16 body design rating, and a maximum operating pressure of 16 bar g.
Installation & maintenance notes
Install Horizontally in the Indicated Flow Direction
Flanged CA14/CA14S models must be installed horizontally and connected in the flow direction indicated on the valve body.
Balance Pipe Connection and Installation
For flanged models or models with a 1/2" BSP or NPT balance pipe connection on the cover, the balance pipe must be correctly arranged and connected according to the system configuration.
Match Large-Size Models to the Maximum Operating Differential Pressure
The appropriate DN40 or DN50 CA14S model must be selected according to the system's actual maximum operating differential pressure. The maximum differential pressures for CA14S-4.5, CA14S-10, and CA14S-14 are 4.5 bar, 10 bar, and 14 bar, respectively. Do not exceed the rated differential pressure of the selected model.
FAQ
What types of systems are suitable for the CA14/CA14S?
The CA14 series comprises ball float automatic liquid drain traps for automatically discharging condensate from air and gas systems. Small-size models have ductile iron bodies, while the DN40/DN50 CA14S models have cast iron bodies and stainless steel valve trim.
What is the difference between the CA14 and CA14S, and what sizes are available?
For small sizes, with 1/2" or 3/4" threaded connections or DN15-DN25 flanged connections, the CA14 has a fluoroelastomer valve cone with a TMO of 200°C @ 14.7 bar g, while the CA14S has a stainless steel valve cone with a TMO of 250°C @ 13.9 bar g. Both have ductile iron bodies and a TMA of 250°C. In DN40/DN50, only the CA14S is available, with a cast iron body, stainless steel valve trim, and a TMA of 220°C. It is offered as CA14S-4.5/10/14 according to the maximum differential pressure.
What sizes and connection types are available?
Threaded versions: 1/2" and 3/4", BSP or NPT. Small-size flanged versions: DN15, DN20, and DN25 (EN 1092 PN16, ANSI 150, or JIS/KS 10K). Large-size flanged versions: DN40 and DN50 (BS 4504 PN16 as standard; ANSI Class 125 or JIS/KS 10 optional).
What are the pressure and temperature limits?
All models have a PN16 body design rating and a PMO of 16 bar g. The TMA is 250°C for small sizes and 220°C for large-size CA14S models. Select the CA14S-4.5/10/14 differential pressure rating for large sizes according to the specific gravity. Verify the applicable limits against the pressure-temperature limit chart in the relevant technical information document.
What should be considered during installation?
Install the unit in the direction of the arrow on the valve body and ensure that the float arm can move freely in the vertical plane. Small-size flanged models are available with R-L or L-R flow direction. Large-size covers can be fitted with a 1/2" BSP or NPT balance pipe connection. Refer to IM-P144-02 for threaded models and IM-P148-13 for flanged models.
