Spirax Sarco SMC32 and SMC32Y are carbon steel bimetallic steam traps designed to PN40, with a maximum operating pressure of 32 bar g under saturated steam and a maximum operating temperature of 350°C. The products are available with threaded, socket weld, butt weld and flanged connections, and can be installed horizontally or vertically. SMC32 is fitted with a flat strainer, while SMC32Y is fitted with a Y-type strainer. Both are serviceable and suitable for steam condensate drainage points requiring debris filtration and on-site maintenance.

Models

SMC32 and SMC32Y are both Spirax Sarco carbon steel, repairable bimetallic steam traps. Their operating pressure and temperature ranges and connection dimensions are essentially the same. The main difference is the strainer type: SMC32 uses a flat strainer, while SMC32Y uses a Y-type strainer. Selection should be based on the required strainer configuration, installation space, piping connection standards, and actual pressure and temperature conditions, while ensuring that the permissible limits of the series are not exceeded.

SMC32Carbon steel bimetallic steam trap with flat strainer

SMC32 is a repairable carbon steel bimetallic steam trap with a flat strainer. Its maximum operating pressure under saturated steam is 32 bar g, and its maximum operating temperature is 350°C @ 32 bar g. The design pressure rating is PN40. Connection sizes of 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, 1 inch, DN15, DN20, and DN25 are available. The trap supports BSP or NPT threaded, socket-weld, butt-weld, and flanged connections and can be installed horizontally or vertically.

SMC32YCarbon steel bimetallic steam trap with Y-type strainer

SMC32Y is a repairable carbon steel bimetallic steam trap with a Y-type strainer.

Application scenarios

Steam condensate drainage points requiring integral filtration and on-site maintenance

Suitable for steam condensate drainage locations where solid contaminants in the pipeline must be retained within the valve body while allowing for on-site maintenance. SMC32 features an integral flat-type strainer, while SMC32Y features an integral Y-type strainer; both models are serviceable.

Selection points

Multiple connection options and flange standard compatibility

This series is available with threaded, socket-weld, butt-weld, and flanged connections. Flanged connections are compatible with EN 1092 PN40, ANSI B16.5 Class 150 and 300, and JIS/KS 10K and 20K standards.

Flat or Y-type strainer options

The SMC32 and SMC32Y series are available with flat or Y-type strainers, allowing selection according to pipeline filtration requirements.

32 bar g saturated steam pressure rating

Under saturated steam conditions, the product has a maximum operating pressure of 32 bar g and a maximum operating temperature of 350°C@32 bar g. The design pressure rating is PN40; the maximum allowable pressure is 50 bar g@50°C.

Horizontal or vertical installation

This series supports horizontal or vertical installation, allowing the installation orientation to be selected according to the site piping layout.

Repairable bimetallic steam trap design

The SMC32 and SMC32Y use a bimetallic steam trap operating principle and are repairable products.

EN 10204 3.1 material certificates available

An EN 10204 3.1 material certificate can be supplied when ordering to meet procurement requirements for material certification documents.

FAQ

What is the structural difference between SMC32 and SMC32Y?

Both are maintainable carbon steel bimetallic steam traps with in-line connections. SMC32 has an integral flat strainer, while SMC32Y has an integral Y-type strainer.

What are the maximum operating pressure and temperature of SMC32 and SMC32Y?

The maximum operating pressure with saturated steam is 32 bar g, and the maximum operating temperature is 350°C@32 bar g. The body design rating is PN40, and the maximum allowable pressure is 50 bar g@50°C.

What connection types and sizes are available for SMC32 and SMC32Y?

Available sizes are ½ inch, ¾ inch and 1 inch, corresponding to DN15, DN20 and DN25. Connection options include BSP or NPT threaded, BS 3799 socket weld, EN 12627 butt weld and various flanged connections. The specific configuration must be confirmed according to the actual model and application conditions.

How can SMC32 and SMC32Y be installed?

They may be installed horizontally or vertically. To facilitate maintenance, isolation valves are recommended upstream and downstream of the steam trap. When discharging into a condensate recovery line with back pressure, a check valve is recommended downstream of the trap. When discharging to atmosphere, a silencer is recommended.

What replacement spare parts are available for SMC32 and SMC32Y?

Available spare parts include the bimetallic element assembly, strainer, strainer and gasket, cover gasket set, and strainer cap gasket. Specify the steam trap model and size when ordering. Do not remove the locknut from the non-removable bimetallic element, as this will affect steam trap operation.
