Safety, installation and maintenance

See the BPS32 and BPS32Y Installation and Maintenance Instructions.

Installation notes

BPS32 and BPS32Y may be installed in any orientation, horizontally or vertically.

Where condensate is discharged into a condensate return line with back pressure, fit a check valve downstream of the trap.

Where condensate is discharged to atmosphere, fit a silencer.

For easier maintenance, install isolation valves upstream and downstream of the trap.

FAQ

What is the difference in strainer design between BPS32 and BPS32Y, and which to choose when piping has high debris?

BPS32 has a compact flat stainless steel strainer, suitable for systems with good water quality and limited installation space. BPS32Y has a cylindrical Y-type stainless steel strainer with larger dirt-holding capacity, better suited for piping systems with potential rust, weld slag and other debris. For heavy industrial steam tracing, multi-stage heat exchangers, or outdoor piping, BPS32Y is typically recommended.

How do BPS32 series capsules affect condensate discharge temperature?

This series uses capsules for balanced pressure thermostatic drainage. STD standard capsule discharges at approximately 12°C below saturation; NTS capsule at approximately 6°C below saturation; SUB capsule at approximately 24°C below saturation. Selection should consider the process requirements for condensate sensible heat utilization, equipment warm-up rate, and discharge temperature.

When should BPS32CV or BPS32YCV with integral check valve be selected?

When the condensate recovery line after the trap has back pressure, vertical lift sections, or multiple units share a common recovery header, BPS32CV or BPS32YCV with integral check valves are recommended to reduce condensate backflow risk during shutdown. If both larger dirt-holding capacity and higher debris resistance are needed, BPS32YCV should be selected.

What are the pressure, temperature and connection specifications for BPS32 and BPS32Y?

Body design rating PN40, maximum working pressure for saturated steam 32 bar g, maximum working temperature 281°C at 32 bar g; maximum allowable pressure 50 bar g at 50°C, maximum allowable temperature 400°C at 30 bar g. Threaded, socket weld and butt weld connections available in 1/2\" to 1\", flanged connections in DN15 to DN25. Thread options BSP or NPT, flange options EN 1092 PN40, ANSI Class 150/300 and JIS/KS standards. Specific configuration depends on actual model and application conditions.

What installation and maintenance precautions should be taken for BPS32 and BPS32Y?

BPS32 and BPS32Y can be installed horizontally or vertically. When discharging into a back-pressured condensate recovery line, a check valve after the trap is recommended; when discharging to atmosphere, a silencer is recommended. For isolation and maintenance access, install shut-off valves upstream and downstream of the trap. Replaceable parts include capsule and seat assemblies, strainers, and corresponding gaskets. When ordering spares, specify trap model, size, and capsule type.
