Extended Service Life Through Shape-Optimized Check Valve Design

The Bray/Rite® wafer combination swing check valve features flow-activated operation with Rite sizing. The Bray/Rite® bore and disc shape are optimized for full opening at low flow conditions (average 3 ft/s). As a result, compared with typical full-size swing check valves, Bray/Rite® performs better in pipelines that normally contain control valves and various media flows. This is partly because full-size swing check valve discs are both large and heavy, achieving full opening only at average flow rates of 11 ft/s. When started at lower flow rates, these valves lose true controllability and cannot fully open. Partially open discs create obstruction, resulting in higher pressure drop, causing valve disc vibration, which in turn disturbs the flow and increases the likelihood of water hammer. Bray/Rite®‘s Rite sizing eliminates these issues. It is carefully designed to accelerate the pipeline media through the valve, achieving virtually unobstructed full opening at low pressure. Rite sizing, combined with limited movement of internal components during operation, reduces wear and extends the service life of Bray/Rite® valves.
